For the "cable car challenge", we were required to design, build and present to the class a machine that could travel as far as possible on a skinny string with one push. This may seem like a simple task but we had some constraints on the materials we could use. We were only allowed 1 sheet of card stock, 2 tongue depressors, 2 paper clips, 2 rubber bands, one straw, a paper towel roll, 1 balloon, 10 inches of string, 6 inches of masking tape and scissors (to cut). We only had a short 5 minutes to design and brainstorm the vehicle, 10 minutes to build the model and 1 minute to test the model. If the design had any major errors we were granted 5 extra minutes to redesign. This was our very first challenge for this class and I felt like it was a learning curve because my team could work better together and manage our time better.
